All Star Pediatrics Frequently Asked Questions
The following is a list of questions frequently asked by parents regarding our practice. This section provides you with basic information on appointments, referrals, hospital affiliations, and much more:

  • With which hospitals are the physicians from All Star Pediatrics affiliated?

  • Drs. Dyer, Duncheskie, Melnychuk, and Italia are affiliated with Phoenixville Hospital. They are available for pediatric consultations in the emergency department and circumcisions in the nursery for patients coming to the practice.

  • Which insurance plans are accepted at All Star Pediatrics?

  • All Star Pediatrics accepts most major insurance plans.    For any insurance or billing questions, please call Lise Lockwood and/or Jayne Dunn at 610-363-5741.

  • How do I get advice about my child's symptoms?

  • Telephone advice and education is mostly provided by our highly skilled pediatric registered nurses. You may call any time during our regular office hours for answers to your questions. In the event that our nurses can't help you with a problem, it will be passed on to one of the physicians. Urgent after-hours questions are handled by our physicians through our paging system (see below).

  • How do I reach a doctor after the office is closed?

  • Call the office at 610-363-1330. Select option 1 by hitting the number 1 on your telephone keypad. You will then hear the instructions for dialing the pager number (610-912-0628) of the physician on call for that day. A physician will return your call within thirty minutes.

  • Where do you refer your patients if a specialist consultation is needed?

  • We utilize physicians and other health care providers from a variety of institutions including The A.I. Dupont Hospital (DuPont), The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, as well as local independent physicians and groups. We rely on our years of experience with these people and feedback from patients to continually update our "network" of specialists. We work with families to find the best care possible for your children.

  • Where will my child be referred if he or she needs to be hospitalized?

  • Routine hospital admissions are referred to the CHOP (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia) Connection physician service at Chester County Hospital in West Chester. This inpatient pediatric unit is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by CHOP physicians and trained pediatric nurses. For more complex medical and all surgical conditions, we refer to both The Children's Hospital in Philadelphia and A.I. Dupont Hospital in Wilmington.

  • What is a "Well Child Visit"?

  • The "Well Child Visit" is a 15-20 minute visit dedicated to reviewing the routine aspects of your child's health (feeding/nutrition, sleep, behavior and development, etc.) These visits also include immunizations and education regarding routine preventive care. We always provide adequate time to answer any questions you may have about your child.

  • How often should I schedule a Well Child Visit for my child?

  • We follow the schedule of routine well child visits established by the American Academy of Pediatrics. We start with an initial newborn visit 2-3 days following your baby's discharge from the nursery. Routine well child visits are then scheduled at 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 months of age. Yearly visits are scheduled between the ages of 2 - 6. After the 6-year-old visit, routine well visits are scheduled every 2 years (6, 8, 10, 12, etc.)

  • My insurance plan requires me to obtain referrals for visits to specialists. How much notice is required to provide an insurance referral? What information is needed for the referral?

  • After discussing the referral with one of our physicians, please first schedule the appointment with the designated specialist. Referrals can then be obtained by calling our office at 610-363-1330. We now have a special mailbox as part of our phone system to request and record referral information - please choose option #4. Please be prepared with the following information when requesting a referral: date of appointment, name of the specialist, provider number for the specialist, and reason for the referral. We greatly appreciate 48 hours notice for us to prepare your child's referral.
